Yesterday I ran 6 miles, one hard uphill thing. Today I ran 6 outside and halfway though the snow came, lovely. The other runners I saw exchanged knowing looks...and an old Russian man said in a thick accent "good for you" as I approached summit road. Sometimes the universe is nice. Have to cook some cupcakes for a part tonight, and not eat all of them. all. of. them.
I hope tomorrow the streets are alright to run...cause the gym is a pain to get to from home.
Happy Last Day.

Day one...so mixed
Ran 5, Indoors...miserable. one of which was a horrific stair experience. Wow. I'm gonna hurt tomorrow. Also did weights. Lots of them.
Then went back to work, (in what I thought was a cute baby doll sweater...) wherein an older gentleman asked when the baby was due. I said I was gang raped by a dozen donuts thank you very much I don't know the exact date...i just know I woke up and there were sprinkles everywhere...
Shheeeeesh...great segway into weight and running eh?
The way I see it...To run this thing with any grace, I need to off a solid 40 lbs. Totally doable. I hear bulimia's making a comeback. Nah...I'm going the points route.
Day one eventful. I think I should keep my eye on a lesser Ultra...say a 32 miler in case I've bitten off more than I can chew...who am I kidding, there is no "more than I can chew"....

Running Log Day One
Okay...so I officially have 9 months till I attempt my first Ultra. Hopefully the Vermont 50 in October. That means from now until then I need to bang out 3 marathons. Which also means I need to get back in marathon shape. So I think to keep this animal honest I will blog my training.
I have modified my work schedule so that I can run 3 hours midday a few days a week. Today will be more like an hour test run. yikes. Let you know how it goes.

Drinking, a Love Story (Knapp)
Currently reading this Caroline Knapp classic...feeling conflicted about the place of memoir in the industry. Voyeuristic and triggered...I love reading this kind of crap. Just gearing up for Infinite Jest.

reading slips
I'm in the middle of reading a few books, and I've hit that place where not one of them has been able to make me commit...
Knut Hamson's Hunger, Jonathon Keat's The Book of the UnknownTales of the 36, Steven Millhauser's Dangerous Laughter...
I'm starting to feel that its me, that I'm having trouble with my attention, and willingness to just butch up and let one of these books in. Either that or I'm lazy and too busy staring slack-jawed at all the beautifully cramping reality television...at least I have managed to not get on face book.
But that is another post for another day.

Tinkers - Paul Harding
Just finished this book...in about 2 sittings- absolutely brilliant
the narrative was disjointed in the best possible way, the lack of linearity was completely self reflexive as the story turned in on itself.
"and as the axe bites into the wood, be comforted in the fact that the ache in your heart and the confusion in your soul means that you are still alive, still human and still open to the beauty of the world, even though you have done nothing to deserve it. And when you resent the ache in your heart, remember: You will be dead and buried soon enough." (72)
